House update

....and other August stuff!

Looks like I’ve managed to find a tenant for my house. The contact from work turned a bit flakey, so I decided to put an advert in the local paper and a card in the window of the house. That generated about 15 responses! Several good ones but I managed to whittle them down to Diane with her 2 boys (15 & 16) who moves in on 28th August. I’ve met her a couple of times and she seems all excited about moving into my house (and why not!). I have been really rigorous with my checks – references from employer, bank, current landlord and personal friend, seen bank statements and ID. I also paid for a full credit check. I’ve had a deposit in advance and made sure the funds have cleared. I’ve been using advice and documentation from a great website (http://www.riky.co.uk/), so I’ve prepared application forms, check lists, tenancy agreements, inventory and more. I’ve had gas safety check & boiler service, energy performance certificate and had the chimney swept. I’ve also taken out landlords insurance and re-directed post. I feel I organised enough to start my own lettings agency….

Liddi is awaiting A level results (due on 20th August so fingers crossed). She split from boyfriend of 2 years Alec just as she was taking her exams, so that was a rather emotional time, but she seems to be happy and settled now, especially since new boyfriend Ben is on the scene. She was offered several University places, but has decided to turn them all down, and try a year out to earn some money, and do a bit of travelling first. Plans seem to be constantly changing. She hasn’t yet found a job, but is hopeful that something will come along soon. In the meantime, she is helping out at home (!!) and has started some voluntary work at our favourite shop – Scope! (which is where she met Ben). Once she has her A level results she can re-apply for Uni for next year instead.

With the bank holiday signalling the end of summer, we decided to have an adventure and so we are taking the caravan to Blackpool for 3 days. We are planning a full day at the Pleasure Beach (freebie thanks to Tesco Clubcard vouchers). I’ve decided to try as many rides as possible, but I am especially looking forward to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum, and to having a thoroughly tacky, British seaside weekend (should I pack the wellies & anorak or just take the trakkie suit?).
Next thing on the agenda is me, Liddi & James moving again, and then renting out mum’s house. Phew!

In the meantime, I have just been downloading some photos from my camera, and there’s a few I was meaning to share with you!

Liddi's birthday present to James. Yum!

Our new cleaner - Consuella!

winners at the Driffield Show - lol!

Night time sunbathing? James in the dog house/drunk? No, it’s star gazing for meteors – midnight Wed 12th Aug – managed to see about 10 meteors!

You practically have started your own lettings agency, what with all the work you did on my flat! Good luck with move, and let me know how Liddi did in her A-Levels because I haven't heard from her and facebook won't let me send any messages just now. :-(

P.S. Tell Consuela she missed a bit...
