Promotion

I've been at my company for nearly a year now, and am thoroughly enjoying it! Thank GOD I was made redundant from the last place!! Anyway, an announcement went out to everyone in the company earlier this week:
"Jenny Fothergill has been promoted to the role of Marketing Manager at Brandesburton where she is responsible for providing a high level marketing service to the business"

Ha Ha !! It must be because of my expertise and experience in Marketing....er no, or my vast knowledge of modular buildings...er no, well, maybe it's just that I've managed to bluff my way through for a full year! If I manage to keep going for much longer, I guess I actually WILL have some experience in real marketing!

The first thing that crossed my mind when I read this (ok, I had been given the nod it was going to happen, but not when the announcement was being sent out), was that those self-important bimbos who man the phones on reception (and who I can hear very clearly from my office), will no longer be able to say to callers who are asking for me "oh no, she's not a manager". The second thing I thought of, obviously, was am I going to get inflated pay for my inflated job? pay review due early July........

Walking in sunshine

Today James and I went for a walk. The walk was arranged by someone from my company's 'social club' (of which I am one of the organisers!). Out of about 300 staff, I'm disappointed at how few people want to join in with the social occasions we have planned. There were 9 people at the walk today - only 4 from work, and their partners/kids. 3 of us were social club organisers! We met at Thixendale and walked to the site of Wharram Percy.

We stopped for lunch and looked at the remains of the Medieval church, then continued through hills and dales, and through fields of sheep and cows. The views over the Wolds was fantastic. In all, the walk was about 8 miles. The weather was hot and sunny - about 25 degrees and gorgeous for being outside walking.

I have a tree!

I like gardening. I'm not very good at it, but I'm learning and I love to watch gardening programmes. I have a small growing area of garden, and I like to grow vegetables and herbs and some flowers. Yesterday I was very excited - I bought a tree! Not only that, it was an Acer tree which is my favourite! The leaves have a pale green and pink tinge. I just went to look for beans and herbs, but I came home with a tree that was a bargain price (just under £20!).

On the subject of gardening, I was very sad to hear that Monty Don from Gardener's World had a stroke a couple of weeks ago and will be off our screens for a while. I like his relaxed and informative approach to gardening. He's only in his early 50's and looks like a healthy guy, but I guess we can never really tell who's at risk from health problems. I do hope Monty will recover back to full health and return to our TV screens.
